Ok so this post is 10 days late. Please accept my apologies but I've been extremely busy! This should ideally have been written and posted on the 3rd of August, but the Eagle eyed amongst you will notice that I only actually posted my first blog on the 5th and that was the introductory pos! Confused? Don't be, it's just laziness from yours truly! To be honest this is the first opportunity I've had to sit and write it!
This blog is my first match report. That's right, there's no better way of keeping you informed of The Full 92's progress than with a report on how the actual football went. After all, that's the point of the club. But don't worry, I'm only giving you the basics of the day as to whether it was any good or not....I'm not into Sky Sports stats or anything! I've added a link at the bottom for the official match report.....
As it was the first game of the new season, and of course the first game for The Full 92 Travel Club, I was pretty excited. After taking a random route on the way up to avoid some stupid traffic jam on the M6 motorway I eventually arrived at 13.30 so had a good 90 minutes to kill before kick off.
Gigg Lane is based off the
main road in Bury, down what could be described as a side street. The housing estate opposite provided a nice location for me to park and 30 seconds later I'm at the ground. Ideal! However as the time kicked on I noticed the roads getting busier although there is a car park at the ground that was only £3 so wouldn't have broken the bank!
The stadium itself is what you'd expect from a League 2 ground. Basic, but not the worst I've ever been to. The food wasn't especially cheap but they had a good selection. The atmosphere started to build before the game as the home fans filtered in before kick off for the new season. I was about halfway down in the Main Stand. Pretty much behind the dug outs. Cracking view of the managers throughout the game.
The Chesterfield faithful provided a good atmosphere and to be honest without them the Bury fans would probably have been a little flat. But you can tell that it is a good honest family club looking forward to a new era! The usual fans songs began ringing out and the season had well and truly begun!
As for the game itself, well the result didn't really go the home team's way. They lost 0-2 and to be honest on the reflection of play it was probably about right. Bury huffed and puffed but couldn't make their chances count. A glaring miss of an open goal in the first half was the closest either side came before the break as they went in 0-0 at half time.
However the second half was equally as unconvincing but the difference was that this time the away side, shooting towards their own fans, made their chances count. Chesterfield fans loving the fact they were winning away from home proceeded to dish out the stick to the home fans, who couldn't really take it anymore and with ten minutes or so to go some started to filter their way out.
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my first game of the season and look forward to many more! Hopefully I'll see you there, travelling with The Full 92 Travel Club and next time you may even make it into a blog! ;-)
