Ok so here it is, the first of many blogs which could go on to become legendary. One day I could be writing blogs from my yacht. But for now I'm on the sofa watching "Family Guy". Rock 'n' roll!
My name is Steve Cook and over the last couple of years I've been regularly going to watch my beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. at Molineux. I splashed out and got myself a season ticket as I used to work weekends so couldn't get up as much as I'd like. The phrase "Kiss of Death" springs to mind as since I did that we got relegated 2 years in a row from the Premier League and then The Championship!
However, after years of being an armchair supporter due to my work commitments, it was a buzz to actually get back to going to the games again. So this led me to conduct a little investigation. Millions of people across the world love football. It's our national game and most popular sport. Thousands upon thousands travel to matches every week to watch their local teams or teams that they follow. I love this passion. And I love travelling to new places. Are you starting to get it yet?
There is a tradition in this country called "Doing the 92" where football fans aim to watch a match at every ground in the Football League. That is proper dedication and I think it sounds like a great idea. You get to travel the country, see different towns and cities and watch football. It's not a cheap hobby, but there's no time limit on it and you can do it as quick or slow as you like. I'm going to have me a bit of that!
That's when it struck me, the Eureka moment! After researching the net, I found loads of websites dedicated to people who have done or are doing this at the moment. Fans forums, information and various other fan sites are available, but no one actually organises it. There are no websites, groups or travel companies that offer it as a tour or package that people can book. Why not? There are loads of people doing it. Why not do it together? The social side of football is second to none!
So there we are. That's the idea and I'm putting it into action. I've worked in travel in the past so have knowledge and contacts to call on. And I'm a football fan who's going to take this challenge on myself so why not make it into a social thing? I will organise the match tickets, travel and accommodation and then meet up with other fans at the matches. It's a great social event as well as a unique task to complete. It may take a few years but I'm in no rush, the football clubs aren't going anywhere (hopefully).
Well that's my first post complete. Cheers for reading. Keep checking in as I'll be updating this from now on regarding how it's all coming along. Here's to "The Full 92"!!
