09/08/14 - MK Dons 4 - 2 Gillingham

So after a summer of World Cup disappointment watching England, and only cricket and Commonwealth games to fill the void it was finally time to get back on the road as the start of the 2014/15 season kicked off. FOOTBALL IS BACK!! And after tinkering with the website and adapting the format of the club a little we were back on the road for the new season.

First game was a trip to Milton Keynes to watch League One's MK Dons battle it out against Gillingham. I was happy to meet up with a newly registered Full 92 recruit in Shaun who is crazily attempting to do all 92 clubs in two seasons. He'd already been to Blackburn on Friday night and was visiting Wolves on Sunday, but Saturday was all about joining us on the road for the first time. It's great meeting other passionate fans and we still want to get more of you Full 92'ers coming to join us at the matches. It's all about creating a social group atmosphere so get yourselves involved!

No doubt Shaun will join us again many times on his road to infamy, and it was a glorious day for us to visit the purpose built 22,000 seater stadium built on a retail park in Milton Keynes. It's a modern stadium inside and out and I imagine will be rocking in the future if MK Dons ever manage to get to the dizzy heights of the Championship or Premier League. So how was the first day of the new season?

The day started well despite me having a cloudy head after the previous night's beer festival (ouch!) and with the sun shining I was looking forward to the first game of a new season. I'd agreed to meet Shaun who was getting the train down from Chester and I set off in the car to meet up with him.

The stadium is located just outside the main town on a busy retail park so there is plenty to see and do around the ground if you like your shops and restaurants. I think the parking attendant thought I was a Gillingham fan as I was wearing my blue Full 92 shirt and she directed me to the away fans car park!

Once we met up and went to get our tickets we proceeded into the ground only to be accosted by security as I dared to have a flag in my back pocket. Unaware of the problem I was then asked a question I never thought I'd ever be asked. "Have you got a fire safety certifcate for that?" Of course it was the one day that I'd left it behind as of course I always carry it with me! After a tense negotiation, we managed to get ourselves and the flag in. Phew!

With only 7,500 or so there yesterday it was not even half full for the first game of the season but the MK Dons fans kept the place rocking as they witnessed a great comeback from their side who were 0-2 down to come back with a 15 minute blitz in the second half to win the match 4-2. A great game to witness at the start of the new season! The sun shone all afternoon and with goals aplenty it was the perfect start to another year of football on the road!
